Our global silicones business brings innovation to a wide range of industries, including automotive, electronics, personal care, consumer products, aerospace and building and construction, to name a few. We offer basic siloxane polymers and an extensive portfolio of additives, including silanes, specialty fluids, and urethane additives. We also have an extensive offering of formulated products, including elastomers and coatings. And, of course, we also collaboratively formulate with customers to meet specific needs.

Release agents

Prevent other materials from bonding to surfaces

Our products

Release agents provide the critical barrier between a molding surface and the substrate, facilitating separation of the cured part from the mold. Without such a barrier in place, the substrate would become fused to the mold surface, resulting in difficult clean-up and dramatic loss in production efficiency. Even when a release agent is used, factors such as irregular applications or improper release agent choice may have a dramatic effect on the quality and consistency of the finished product

Magnasoft 2059

A versatile and economical choice, Magnasoft 2059 textile softener generally adds a smooth, slick feel and soft hand to nearly any type of fabric. It typically cures to produce a slick elastomeric film as soon as water evaporates, without the need for a catalyst. Generally a cost-effective softener, Magnasoft 2059 textile softener can enhance a fabric’s stretch recovery and ability to repel water, all while helping to minimize wrinkles.

Foam Control

Fast foam knockdown

Why Use Antifoams and Defoamers?

Foam is a mass of bubbles created when gas is dispersed into a liquid and the dispersion is stabilized. High-strength films of liquid surround the bubbles, forming large volumes of foam. While the cause of foam is a complicated study in physical chemistry, its existence presents serious problems in the operation of industrial processes, as well as the filling, transportation and quality of finished products. Typically foam occurs in blending, mixing, reflux, distillation and filtration steps. If not properly controlled, foam can reduce equipment capacity and increase processing
time and operating expenses.

Antifoams

Products in the spotlight

Sagtex PHD

A high-performance antifoam emulsion available for multiple uses in the textile industry, SagTex PhD silicone antifoam typically imparts tough durability to treated textiles in both acidic and alkaline environments. The product generally creates exceptional durability at low add-on levels, and performs effectively at much lower use levels than other silicone antifoams on the market. SagTex PhD silicone antifoam features rapid foam knockdown, and can provide superior foam control at both ambient and elevated (high)temperatures. Use of the product typically creates no oily residue or agglomerates when diluted in water.

Sagtex DSA

SagTex DSA silicone antifoam is a medium-viscosity, highly potent antifoam emulsion that offers excellent antifoam control in high-temperature, surfactant-rich systems. Noted for its rapid foam knockdown and durability, it also has been shown to inhibit foam over long periods of time. SagTex DSA silicone antifoam easily disperses in all foam systems, as well as in hard water. When the product is diluted in water, no oily spots or lumps are created. It is highly effective in a variety of textile processes including sizing, scouring, printing and finishing.

Water repellents

Repel water and other liquids

Our products

In goods as diverse as textiles, building materials and home care products, excellent water repellence may be achieved due to the convergence of three key features of hydrophobic silicone formulations. First is the inherent presence of a hydrophobic functional group on the silicone molecule. Second is excellent wetting, which allows the silicone to penetrate the substrate and deliver the hydrophobic functional group deeply in or through the material. Third is the stability of silicones and their resistance to chemical, heat, ultraviolet or oxidative forces. Combine these features with the fact that silicones are highly gas permeable, and the result is a durable, yet breathable water-repellent end product. Momentive has taken advantage of this chemistry to offer our water-repellent silicones.
